HISTORY OF THE ROTTWEILER
The Rottweiler (pronounced ROT-VILE-ER) is a very old breed and was developed in the area of the Rhine and it's side valley's in Gemany. He took his name from the town of Rottweil. In Those days, he had a hard task to perform; his job was to drive and guard the cattle; keep them in order without upseting them; accompany his master on lonely and dangerous roads and protect him and his property. Changes in economic conditions and modern methods of transportation rendered this type of task for the Rottweiler redundant.
At first he became just a house dog. however, his fine working qualities and his value as a police, army and guard dog were recognised in time. He has also been used successfully as a guide dog for the blind.
Today's breeders should still strive to retain his working qualities; and if given the chance to work with his master he will soon prove that he can do a day's work.
